Global Surgery Symposium 2017
Apr 06, 2017
Last week, Elisa Baring, Director, Programs spoke at the Yale Global Surgery Symposium on the importance of morbidity management for NTD control and elimination.
A simple 20-minute surgery can prevent people from going blind when they have advanced stages of trachoma. Additionally, for men with elephantiasis, surgery can be performed to alleviate the debilitating swelling that occurs in the scrotum.
Since 2014, the END Fund has supported over 1,000 hydrocelectomies (for men with elephantiasis) and since 2012, has supported over 9,500 surgeries for advanced trachoma.
We hope that Elisa's talk will help spark further discussion and collaboration at Yale and in the global community.
